How to make Tool-Assisted Speedruns [N64 Tutorial] - 2007/08/13 01:05
First you need to Download the Mupen64 Emulator with re-record implemented.
First Step - Configuring the emulator
Configure the Plugins in Options > Settings.

Config Plugins TAB:

Video Plugin - I prefer Jabo's Plugin because I got good results with this. Click on Config and choose the best settings for you.

Input Plugin - As I said, I prefer Jabo's Plugin. Clink on Config and configure your keys.

If you want to use a Joystick choose the Joystick Plugin in the box.
Directories TAB:

Click on ADD and choose your Roms Folder.
HotKeys TAB:

Configure your Frame Advance key, the most important key for a TAS.
And configure your Savestates Keys.
Now, everything are configured.
In the Main Window of the emulator, click on File > Refresh ROM List.

The ROMs will appear in the Main Window, double click to open a ROM.

Second Step - Recording the movie
Click on Utilities > Movie > Start Movie Recording.

This window will appear.

Leave From Start checked. This option allow start record from reset of the game. The another option, From Snapshot, allow start record from any moment.
In the game we can see two important things. The Frame Counter and the ROM Version, is important to know in which version of the game the movie was recorded.
During the game you can press Frame Advance to Pause the emulation and start to TAS. Always Saving and Loading to correct a mistake.
To Resume a previous movie, uncheck Ready-Only in Utilities > Movie, choose your movie file and Load you previous Savestate.
Third Step - Playback a movie
Click on Utilities > Movie > Start Movie Playback, and choose the movie file that you want to Playback.
TUTORIAL DONE !
I will add more things later, and will show TASing a game.
Don't forget do check the SNES TUTORIAL too.
