Guidance: Non-Assisted Speedruns
Sunday, 08 April 2007

What?

Non-Assisted speedruns are speedruns played on a real console system or an emulator without any rerecords. You can not use savestates or similar help. This makes these movies to an impressive work if the time is right. Making any mistake means you have to redo the whole run.

How?

Like said before you can record these movies i.e. with a dvd-recorder directly from your tv or play them without any savestates on an emulator. Though an emulator run will never be accepted by the community as much as a realtime run on a console system and though rerecording is not allowed no one can really prove if there has not been any slowdowns. Only on a real console game system this can be for sure a real time speedrun.

Why?

Compared to tool-assisted speedruns these movies are more made to show skill. Real skill. You have to be a highly skilled player to perform a full realtime speedrun in an impressive time. There is no better way to prove your gaming skills than showing your realtime speedrun of a hard game. Such speedruns need lots of training and repeats.

This would be a great site for both types of speedruns. VHS allowed?

Will you guys accept VHS runs, or do they have to be on DVD?
